What we hold, and what we do with it

Your mobile number is never shared

We do not share mobile numbers with anyone. Numbers given to What's Good Napa are not sold, not rented, not traded, and not passed to any third party for marketing or for any other purpose. No affiliate, no partner, no list broker, no venue on the site. Nobody.

The one exception is the mechanical one, and it is not sharing in any meaningful sense: to send you a text, the number has to go to the company that carries it, which is Twilio, and then to your own mobile carrier. That is how a text message reaches a phone. They handle it to deliver the message and for nothing else. There is no other route your number takes out of here.

Text message consent is not shared with third parties either. Nobody else gets to send you anything on the strength of your having signed up here.

The weekly text

If you sign up, you get one text a week at most: a short message naming a few specific things happening in Napa Valley that week, with a link to the rest. On a quiet week nothing is sent at all. That is up to 4 messages a month, and usually fewer.

Message and data rates may apply. Those are your carrier's charges, not ours. We charge nothing for any of this.

Reply STOP to any message and you are off the list, immediately and permanently, with no reply asking you to reconsider. Reply HELP for a line telling you what this is and how to reach a person. Both work at any time.

When you sign up we keep the number, the exact sentence you agreed to, the time you agreed to it, and the IP address the sign-up came from. That last one is not for tracking. It is the evidence that the consent was real, which is what we would be asked to produce if anyone ever queried it, and it is the only reason it is kept.

Everything we collect, in full

A mobile number, if you sign up for the weekly text, along with the consent record above. Nothing else about you is asked for and nothing else is stored.

An email address, if you send in an event or point us at a source. It is there so we can come back with a question about what you sent, and so we know who told us. It is not added to any mailing list and there is no mailing list to add it to.

Ordinary server logs. Requests to the site are logged by the host in the usual way, which includes IP addresses. They are used to keep the site up and to stop abuse, and they age out.

That is the complete list. No account, no profile, no history of what you looked at, nothing built up about you over time.

Cookies, trackers, and the honest exception

There is no analytics on this site. No Google Analytics, no tag manager, no advertising pixel, no session recorder, no third-party script that watches what you do. Reading the site sets no cookie at all. A cookie is only ever set if you sign in as an administrator, which is one person.

The exception, said plainly because leaving it out would make the paragraph above false: the site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. That means Google's servers see the request for the font files, including your IP address, the same as they do on a great many sites. It is not used to identify you here and we get nothing back from it. If that matters to you, a content blocker stops it, and the site reads fine without the fonts.

Getting off, and getting removed

Reply STOP to a text, and that number is done. If you would rather not use the phone, write to [email protected] and say which number to remove.

Want everything we hold about you gone, including the record of a submission you sent in? Write to the same address and ask. It gets deleted. One record survives that: if you have unsubscribed from texts, the fact that your number opted out is kept, because that is the only way to guarantee we never message it again by accident.

Children

This is a listing of what is on in a valley, not a service for children, and it is not directed at anyone under 13. Do not sign up a number that is not yours to sign up.

Changes, and who to ask

If any of this changes, the page changes and the date at the top changes with it. Questions, corrections, or a request to be removed: [email protected]. A person reads it.
